Guiseley Community Foundation have had a busy few weeks following their successful Beer Festival, here’s all the latest news.
Beer Festival Success
Earlier this month we hosted our much delayed second beer festival, which raised an amazing £6000. This money will be split between the Community Foundation, Friends of Nunroyd Park, Memory Lane Day Centre and Aireborough Children’s Centre.
Those who attended the two-day festival, held at Coopers Bar in Guiseley, were able to try over 20 beers, as well as cider and wine. One of the highlights of the event was the auction, with Twitter sensation Dave Jones proving an excellent auctioneer.
This event would not have been possible without the hard work of the many people involved in organising the event. Foundation Chairman Phil Rogerson said “A festival like this takes a lot of organising and it would not have been possible without a lot of hard work behind the scenes from our Trustees and volunteers. In particular I would like to thank Trustees Pete Gable and Tony Hazell along with ACTION chairman Bob Banks who worked so hard to make this happen.”
He continued: “I would also like to thank the businesses, big and small, and the individuals who supported us with sponsorship; Coopers and their staff who went above and beyond in helping us stage this event; all those who donated items for auction and raffle, and of course all those who came and supported us and made it such a great event.”
Easter Football Camps
Our very popular football camps will be on during the Easter holidays. During the first week, the camps will be on every week day, and in the second week, they are being held Monday-Thursday. More details can be found on our social media pages.
PLPS Girls Football Tournament
Last Thursday, girls from Yeadon Westfield Junior School represented Guiseley at the regional Premier League Primary Stars girls football tournament.
The event was hosted by Rotherham United Community Sports Trust, and was attended by 14 teams.
The girls found themselves in a group with Bradford City, Hull City, Rotherham United, York City, Sheffield Wednesday and Harrogate Town. During the group stage, Guiseley won three games, drew twice and lost just once. Despite getting 11 points, the girls just missed out on qualification for the semi-finals.
Community Coach Marcus, who managed the team on the day, was very proud of the effort the girls put in. All of the girls enjoyed the event, especially playing on the inflatable football pitch at lunchtime. One of the girls even won an award for being ‘ambitious’, which is one of the Primary Stars’ key values.
Eco Schools Update
Councillor Ryk Downes visited Queensway school to talk to their Eco Committee. The children really enjoyed listening to Ryk, who told the group about all the things he has done to become more Eco friendly. This includes buying clothes from the charity shop, and using solar power at home.
Meanwhile, Yeadon Westfield Junior School have been visited by Rob and Sue from the Friends of Nunroyd Park group. The volunteers helped the younger Eco Committee members plant three trees at school, before helping to complete a litter pick with the older members at Nunroyd Park.
