Guiseley AFC Academy have won the West Riding Under-21 League after they were awarded the three points from their title decider against IAFE (Harrogate Railway).
IAFE made a mistake and were found guilty of fielding an ineligible player in the final game of the season.
Academy manager Dave Currie said: “We aimed to use this league as a way of developing players against bigger, stronger opponents and felt that winning games wasn’t really important.
“However, the players really stepped up, competed physically and played some excellent football, and they deserve their title win.
“Throughout the season, the Academy fielded a team that had an average age of 17 and we used over 30 players as we looked to give a number of players experience at this level.”
This was the Academy’s first season in the Under-21 league and it has been a hit with the players and management.
“Credit to the West Riding County FA for running the U-21 leagues,” added Currie.
“It has been superbly organised and we look forward to playing in the league again next season.”
