Previous Meetings
The sides last met on Halloween last year, with Kallan Murphy grabbing the equaliser in a game that finished 1-1. It is the sides first meeting at Nethermoor since 2009, when Worksop won 2-1. The Lions did however win 6-0 against the same opposition on this ground in the previous campaign.
Last Time Out
The Lions beat FC United of Manchester 3-1 on Saturday. The game saw Reece Kendall hit double figures for the season as his goal put Guiseley on their way. And own goal and Kallan Murphy secured the victory by the end of the first half.
The Tigers beat confirmed play-off side Warrington Rylands at the weekend. The 2-1 victory was secured thanks to Jordan Burrow and Paul Green’s goals either side of Sam Burns equaliser.
The Lions’ Form Book
Guiseley ended a four-game losing streak on Saturday, a streak which has all but ended The Lions play-off hopes.
This rearranged clash gives the Lions the chance to say farewell to the home fans and to end 23/24 on a high before visiting Workington on the final day this weekend.
Our Opponents – Worksop Town
Managers: Craig Parry
Stadium: The Windsor Foodservice Stadium
Nickname: The Tigers
Current League Position: 7th
The Tigers are a complete polar opposite to the Lions. They have the best home record in the league, with 45 of their 64 points picked up at home. What gives the Lions hope is their patchy away form, which could cost them a place in the play-offs themselves.
They have only won one of their last six away matches. They were hammered 4-0 by Morpeth Town in their last away outing.
Aaron Chapman signed for the club over the Easter period. The 33-year-old stopper has much EFL experience with the likes of Peterborough United and Stevenage.
Defender George Taft and midfielders Terry Hawkridge and Paul Green also possess much EFL experience.
The squad also has players Lions fans will be familiar with. Hamza Bencherif has recently signed a two-year deal with Worksop and played for Guiseley from 2019-2022. Regan Hutchinson played for Guiseley for a season in 21-22 following his release from Chesterfield. The full-back later moved to Farsley Celtic before settling at the Tigers.
The clubs top goalscorer is forward Jay Rollins who has 11 goals to his name in the league this season. Fellow forwards Liam Hughes and Luke Hall both have 9.
Just three points separate the two teams and defeat would likely put paid to their own play-off chances.
The Lions’ Team News
The Lions could name an unchanged side for the final home game of the season.
Adam Dawson will be pushing for successive starts alongside the returning Kofi Moore.
Prince Ekpolo could provide a new option to Liam Tongue after the midfielder sat out the last two matches through illness.
Lewis Whitham and Laurence Sorhaindo remain out through injury.
What Are They Saying?
“First half we could have had seven or eight. Little bits of naivety but I said to the lads ‘Be ruthless’.
Interim Manager Liam Tongue was delighted with the first half performance, particularly grabbing the three goals which won the Lions the game.
“Massive uplift considering the last four games. The mindset must be the same. The lads were terrific today”.
Tongue was pleased to end a poor run of form and had some kind words to say about the performances of Kallan Murphy, Ollie Brown and Reece Kendall.
“He has been really good. Last couple of weeks we have changed it. This was the perfect game to come on. He has that wow factor about him”.
Michael Afuye hasn’t played much under Tongue, but the Rochdale loanee got an opportunity today and the interim manager was pleased with his contribution.
