Substitute Scott Wins It For The Vixens

Guiseley Vixens are through to the next round of the FAWPL Cup after a heroic 3-2 win over rivals, Huddersfield Town Ladies.

A last-minute strike from Emily Scott sealed the Vixens place in the next round of the league cup after recovering from going two nil down. The other goals coming from Nikki Berko and Ebony Njie.

The Vixens started the game brightly, breaking down Huddersfield attacks well and attacking positively in spells. The only early chance for the visitors was blocked on the edge of the box by Alarna Fuller.

Fiona Worts danced her way through the lines all game and almost produced a goal from one of her runs just after fifteen minutes but goalkeeper Charlotte Kenyon matched the shot and saved.

Worts had another opportunity to score half an hour in. She had time to turn her maker and shoot, but the ball drifted up and just over the crossbar.

Fuller was called upon once again. Emily Heckler’s run into the box saw her shoot but the Guiseley captain threw herself in front of the ball, blocking well and putting it out for a corner.

Huddersfield broke the deadlock just before half-time. Nutter ran onto a ball across the box and side-footed it into the Vixens goal.

The second-half was started much brighter. Njie having the first chance of the half but her shot was stopped well by Kenyon.

Minutes later, the youngster was involved again, this time with some magic. She went around two players before nutmegging a third and being brought down for a freekick which the Vixens were unable to convert.

Huddersfield doubled their lead when former Vixen, Sarah Danby, shifted the ball onto her left foot and hit it into the top right corner out of the reach of the ‘keeper.

Guiseley were undeterred and less than ten minutes later halved the deficit. A great link-up between Worts and Berko saw Berko pull the ball across the box and Njie put it home. A goal which was her first for the first team. Game on.

Just as the celebrations were dying down, Guiseley were awarded an indirect freekick in the six-yard box for obstruction. The ball was played back to Berko who put it home smartly to level things up.

‘Keeper Beth Seasman kept her concentration with five minutes to go. A deflection in the box took the ball goal-bound but her fast reactions were on show when she grasped the ball on the line before pouncing on it, killing the chance.

Substitute, Emily Scott won it right at the death for the Vixens with a fantastic strike.

She chased down a ball into the Huddersfield half, made her way around the defender and struck a sweet chip over Kenyon who was off her line, into the back of the net to win it for the Vixens.
