History of
Guiseley Ladies
Guiseley
Ladies Football Club was set up in the summer of 2005. The team consists
of many ex-players from Thorpe United LFC, Stockport County and Leeds
University. The players all wanted to be a part of the exciting prospects
Guiseley Ladies had to offer. Although many players dropped down at least
two divisions to play for Guiseley, the benefits could be seen for the long term
if they could fulfil their potential. In support of this aim Guiseley Ladies received great support from
the club and
look forward to the various teams supporting each other in the future.
The
Women's’ Football League structure changed in season 2005-06 with new clubs in
West Yorkshire starting in the RAF West Riding Girls League and moving up into
the Northern Regional leagues, on into the Northern Combination, then the
National Leagues.
Consequently,
Guiseley Ladies started life in the RAF West Riding Girls League -Open Age
Division One and deservedly earned the honour of League Champions 2005-06 in
their first season. This led to them gaining promotion to the North East Regional League
(Div. One South) and, for the second season running, won that league title
too. They have now moved up into the much stronger North East Regional
League Premier Division for season 2007-08. The Ladies are aiming to consolidate
their position in this league before further team progression and development of
the ladies section is attempted. This is very much a case of catching
their own breath, and everyone's else's too, after the last two year run,
before moving on again - one hopes. |
