Guiseley Vixens look to return to their winning ways when they face 11th placed Mossley Hill this coming Sunday.
Mossley come into the game with a pattern of results, winning and losing alternately with the last fixture ending in a 2-1 loss at home to Chester-le-Street.
The previous game was a close affair with Mossley going into half-time 2-1 up.
The Vixens battled back into the game and came out eventual 3-2 winners after Sarah Danby’s second-half brace.
Captain Alarna Fuller said: “We’ve got to show a lot of character as a team this week. We had our first league defeat of the season last week against a team that deserved to win and a team who are fighting to stay in the league this season and they put their bodies on the line.
“We’re expecting the same this week with Mossley as they are in the same scenario.
“It was a close game last time with us narrowly winning 3-2. We know their pitch isn’t ideal for us as a team looking to play football so we need to make sure we adapt from the first whistle and come away with one of the four wins needed to win the league.”
Manager Kyle O’Reilly said: “Losing isn’t nice for players or coaches but we have to put it behind us, dwelling on it would only have adverse effects. We know where we went wrong as individuals and as a collective last week so I expect a good response come Sunday.
“I see this game being similar to last week’s game in that they are fighting for their lives and that in itself makes the game a tough fixture.
“They’ll be wanting the three points as much as us which will make for a good match. I’ve no doubt the players will be looking to respond positively and they’ll do what it takes to get those three points and keep us on top of the pile.”
The Vixens come into the game level on points with Hull City Ladies at the top of the FAWPL Northern Division One but we do have three games in hand.
“We’re confident we can continue our path to win the league and providing everyone sticks to the process, one defeat doesn’t change that. Middlesbrough lost four games last season and still won the league convincingly so we take inspiration from that, especially considering they now sit second in the FAWPL,” he said.
“We need 12 points from a possible 21, providing the other teams don’t slip up, so we just have to keep moving forward.”
The game takes place at the Mossley Hill Athletic Club, Liverpool and kick-off is 2PM. Follow the Twitter: @GuiseleyVixens for live updates throughout the game.
