Town next at Nethermoor

By Micky Ruddle

Mark Bower’s side will be looking to force their way back into the play-off zone as they turn their attention to Harrogate Town on Tuesday night at Nethermoor (7.45 pm).

Saturday’s 3-2 defeat at the hands of Hednesford Town ended Guiseley’s 13-game unbeaten run, allowing Boston United to move back into fifth place after their 4-1 victory over relegation-threatened Stalybridge Celtic.

However, the Lions would return to the play-off positions with even a draw against their local rivals. Nethermoor has become a fortress in recent months with Guiseley recording seven consecutive wins, scoring an impressive eighteen times in the process while conceding just four goals.

Even including the Hednesford setback they have picked up 23 points out of the last possible 30, form that has propelled the Lions into the play-off picture.

Town’s form has dipped slightly of late. The visitors lie currently in eighth place, eight points off the last play-off spot. In their previous six outings, they have drawn four times, recording a defeat and a solitary win.

If history is anything to go by, Town have never beaten Guiseley in the Conference North. The sides have met seven times, the Lions recording six victories and a draw.

In their last encounter at Wetherby Road on Boxing Day, Gavin Rothery’s hat-trick of penalties ensured that Guiseley went home with the points from a 3-2 win.
