Clinical leaders claim the points

Guiseley turned in an improved display at The New Lawn on Saturday but were beaten by a clinical Forest Green Rovers side who ran out 3-0 winners.

Mark Bower’s side started well against the Vanarama National League leaders and saw Wayne Brooksby hit the post with an effort three minutes in.

However, the visitors were behind at the break after Elliott Frear turned home Jon Parkin’s cross. Parkin then had a goal disallowed shortly after the interval before the home side were awarded a soft penalty when Gavin Rothery was deemed to have tripped Kurtis Guthrie.

Parkin tucked home the second before substitute Aaron O’Connor completed the scoring with a well-taken third shortly after coming on as substitute.

Ultimately the Lions’ positive play lacked a cutting edge while Rovers were clinical in the final third, with Bower’s men seeking to curb their run of defeats at Wrexham on Wednesday.
