FA Youth Cup 2nd Qualifying Round

Guiseley Academy win on penalties

Guiseley Academy 1 Hall Road Rangers 1 (Guiseley win 4-3 on penalties).

Tuesday night turned into one of those ‘classic cup ties’. After a strong pacey start from Hall Road Rangers, Guiseley took the lead with a quick counter attack. A ball over the top of the Hall Road Rangers back four was all that Luke Porritt needed to use his pace and sprint away from the defenders before slotting the ball into the bottom corner of the goal.
From the kick-off the game started to become more open and with chances coming at either end it wasn’t long before there was a second goal of the game. With the ball being passed through the Guiseley defenders the Hall Road Rangers striker had a chance and scored to make the game level at the break

Half Time 1-1

In the second half it was end to end entertainment with both teams having chances. After a Hall Road Rangers defender was given two yellow cards, they were down to ten men. Although Guiseley had one extra player, it still looked like either team could get a winner. With the full time whistle fast approaching, both teams started to look towards extra-time.

Full Time 1-1

The 30mins of extra-time was played out with both teams attacking. The ten men of Hall Road Rangers defended well and with more players behind the ball, it was difficult for the Guiseley Academy to break them down. Chances for Guiseley came about after some nice attacking play, but the ball would just not go into the net. This game was going to the dreaded penalties.

End of Extra-Time 1-1

With four great penalties from Callum Marshall, Ben Whitfield, Elliot Scott and Luke Porritt and two fantastic saves from the Guiseley keeper Conor Crossley, Guiseley Academy won the penalty shoot out 4-3, and booked themselves a place in the final qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup.

The 3rd and final qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup will be Grimsby Town v Guiseley.
