Having
secured his tenure for next season Guiseley Manager Steve Kittrick
together with the travelling support ran the whole gamut of emotions
from satisfaction to despair and finally elation as Guiseley secured a
vital win to keep the pressure for a play-off place on Eastwood Town and
Buxton.
James
Hanson having partially recovered from the injury that ruled him out of
the midweek clash at Leek and Lee Crooks returned as Gavin Knight and
Damien Dunne dropped to the bench to join James Cotterill.
The
visitors were the first to threaten forcing a succession of corners from
one of which Simon Sturdy headed just over the angle and Hanson had a
header scooped off the line by Steven Hernandez which Aron Wilford just
failed to force home as the visitors looked for an early advantage
Former
Guiseley player Kevin Sanasy had a good chance at the other end but his
shot was wide of the mark. Playing some fluent football and prompted by
Lee Crooks intelligent use of the ball Guiseley nearly reaped some
reward for their effort as Sean Taylforth shot narrowly over from twenty
yards out before Hanson slipped a ball to Wilford who controlled it
before firing a low shot into the far corner past Hernandez for the
opener.
Knight
came on to replace the injured Hanson just before the break and the
visitors were seemingly gifted a golden opportunity early into the
second half as Henandez was penalised for collecting the ball outside
the area under pressure from Knight and was shown the mandatory red
card.
However,
the ten men of Worksop proved to be resolute in their determination to
restore parity and eventually grabbed an equaliser through the
impressive Steve Akers who latched on to a loose ball following a free
kick. Whilst Guiseley hardly tested Hernandez stand-in and failed to
take advantage of their numerical superiority. But there was a further
twist at the tail end of this game when just as it seemed that the
spoils would be shared Gavin Knight sprang the home sides offside trap,
drew the keeper and slotted the ball underneath him for the winner with
two minutes remaining.
