Saturday 12 April 2008                Unibond League    home

Witton Albion   1:0 Guiseley

Guiseley lost this top five clash by the narrowest of margins on a pudding of a pitch against a team who looked far from championship material in a game which the visitors looked much the better side for long periods.

Sean Taylforth was the first to try his luck for Guiseley as he engineered a good position for himself to fire in a low shot which was parried by Jon Kennedy who then recovered to collect at the second attempt as Aron Wilford lurked. The keeper then did well to foil Wilford's close range effort and the tipped over a goal-bound effort from the same player.

At the other end Piotr Skiba was out smartly to deny Adam Warlow and then lost touch with a corner but got back to save with an outstretched leg before denting Rob Thornley. Wilford continued his duel with Kennedy as he turned a defender and put a shot across the face of goal with the keeper beaten. but just the wrong side of the post

Damien Dunne replaced Lee Crooks at the restart and James Hanson appeared to be impeded by the veteran Brian Pritchard but the referee waved away Guiseley's claims for a penalty. Taylforth did well to retrieve a seemingly lost cause on the dead ball line and deliver a tantalising cross which went unanswered and Wilford's back header was just a whisker away from a Jonathan Fernandez cross.

Witton delivered the killer blow on 68 minutes as Adam Warlow evaded the defence and shot across Skiba into the far corner. The visitors rallied and Dave Merris hit an upright direct from a corner;  the returning Gavin Knight - on for Wilford - delivered a good cross for James Hanson to glance a header just wide and although Guiseley finished strongly it wasn't to be their day.
