Having beaten Hednesford twice already this season and put five past the
same team just three weeks ago the home fans might be forgiven in
thinking that their favorites had all to play for, especially as
Guiseley had manoeuvred themselves into the last play-off place and the
visitors had little to play for except pride as they are safe from
relegation and have slipped out contention for the play-offs.
Just shows how wrong you can be, as the home side gave away another
valuable two points with a listless display that saw them muster just
three efforts on goal despite the face that they got off to the best
possible start as leading scorer James Hanson went past keeper Paul
Evans only for the shot stopper to bring him down on eight minutes.
Despite vociferous protests from the visitors Hanson himself was
coolness personified as he sent Evans the wrong way and slotted the ball
into the corner of the net. Danny Ellis and Matthew Noble created
openings for the home side but the lack finish proved to be Guiseley’s
undoing. Alan Naginton nearly leveled matters just before the break as
his shot was blocked and Mario Pedro’s follow-up effort was headed away
by Simon Sturdy.
The mobile Hanson left a defender for dead and shot across Evans but
agonizingly the wrong side of the post early in the second period. But
from then on it was just a matter of time before Hednesford grabbed an
equaliser. Piotr Skiba saved at the feet of Ross Dyer and David Brown
got in behind the home defence but lobbed over from a good position,
before Dyer once again worked a good position and after Skiba had
parried his first effort the striker put the loose ball into the empty
net.
