17/18 Friendly Preview: Barnsley

We make a swift return to action on Tuesday night as Barnsley visit Nethermoor for our second pre-season friendly with kick-off at 7:30pm.

The Tykes who finished 14th in the Championship last season have had a busy summer with several new players arriving after plenty of departures.

It is their first friendly in preparation for next season’s Championship campaign so Paul Heckingbottom is expected to bring a strong side.

Lions boss Adam Lockwood was pleased with the test in Saturday’s 5-1 defeat against Leeds United “It was a good workout against quality opposition, I was disappointed in a few of the goals, I don’t like to lose.”

“It’s about being focused and ready for the start of the season, in all areas we have took positives and negatives out of the game.”

Lockwood also thanked both sets of supporters and commented on the experience at Nethermoor “It is a nice family club, I think the matchday experience is improving continually, there’s little bits of improvement around the ground. It was a big crowd today for us and I thank everybody for that. I’d like to thank the club and everybody involved, there’s been a lot of hard work and improvements over the summer.”

“Hopefully both sets of supporters had a positive experience, it was a good day.”

When asked about the squad Adam said “We’ve had a lot of positive talks, I’m happy up to now with the quality. There’s a lot of things that we can’t disclose, there’s a few little things I’d like to get tied up but all will be announced at the right time.”

Will Wells appeared to pick up a knock towards the end of the second half and Lockwood said “He’s not too sure, it is hard to say straight away. We might need to send him for an X-ray but hopefully not. He’s got a bright future and he has come back in great shape. He is learning in every session we take part in and every game he is learning and is keen to do so.”

Jonny Maxted was delighted to be back after a Summer break “It was just nice to get 45 minutes under my belt, I thought the boys have done well. It’s good for everyone to get a run out, at the end of the day we’ve got to push on and look at Tuesday now and see if we can do better than today.”

“Barnsley is a good test for us and for them. It also helps the team togetherness, there is a lot of new faces. It is a big factor getting as many games in as we can before the first match.”

Admission to Tuesday’s friendly is just £10 for adults, £5 for concessions and U18’s. U12’s are FREE with an accompanied paying adult.
